Early Days
Barrow & District Disability Association (BDDA) was set up in 1981 by a group of disabled people and professionals interested in disability welfare. At first the organisation operated from the homes of various disabled people, then in 1987 we acquired two derelict terrace houses to use as a centre.
BDDA Grows
Over a period of thirteen years we fundraised to increase the size of the centre to four terraced houses, two extensions and an upper story to form our present day building which is called the Margaret Burrow Centre after one of the founder members.
The number of services and activities we provide has also increased accordingly to the present level. The organisation is managed overall by an executive committee and on a daily basis by staff and co-ordinators of sub-groups including, access, disability information and advise, fund raising, education, social activities and the youth section.
How we’re Funded
BDDA is an independent registered disability charity that raises its funds from various sources such as fundraising, service level agreements, grant and donations.

The BDDA centre is located on School street just off the Oldham Street car park in the centre of the town.
